Performing in the West End

Performing in the West End

Despite her classical background Katherine has a deep appreciation for musicals old and new. She has showcased her versatility on numerous West End shows over the years.

Her first experience in the professional theatre world was in George Gershwin’s ‘Crazy For You’ at the Prince Edward Theatre, where she played as a deputy keyboard player from 1993-96. This proved to be an eye-opening experience for Rockhill, who performed at least once a week on the show and occasionally played for auditions and rehearsals.

She went on to deputize on several other productions, including ‘Grease’ at the Dominium Theatre, ‘My Fair Lady’ at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and eventually earned her own keyboard chair on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Whistle Down the Wind’ in 1996.

After taking a break from the theatre world to raise her two children, Rockhill pursued a career as a music teacher at a local prep school while still performing in chamber concerts.

Once her children went to school, she resumed her work in the West End, deputising on ‘Mamma Mia’ at the Novello Theatre, ‘Kinky Boots’ at the Adelphi Theatre, playing as the pianist for Tori Amos’s ‘Light Princess’ at the National Theatre, and as the pianist for the play ‘Fanny and Alexander’ at the Old Vic.

Most recently, Rockhill is the piano deputy on ‘Matilda’ at the Cambridge Theatre in London currently two or three times a week, and is working towards being a cover MD for the show.
